JUST IN: No Survivors as 12 People Killed in Tourist Plane Crash

A light aircraft crashed in Kenya’s coastal Kwale County early on Tuesday while en route from Diani to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, killing all onboard.

The aircraft, operated by Mombasa Air Safari, was carrying eight Hungarian tourists, two German tourists and the Kenyan pilot, the airline said. The crash occurred in a hilly and forested area about 40 km from Diani airstrip.

Initial reports indicate the crash happened at around 08:35 local time, though some county officials cited 05:30 a.m. as the time of the incident. Heavy rains were reported in the region at the time.

Rescue teams arrived to find a charred wreckage and no survivors. The investigation is now being led by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and other government agencies to determine the cause of the accident.

The incident is expected to raise concerns about aviation safety in Kenya’s domestic charter sector and its oversight protocols
