Kamwokya Fire Destroys Homes, Leaves Young Student Dead in Kampala

A devastating fire swept through Kisenyi 2 Zone in Kamwokya, Kampala, early Friday morning, claiming the life of 15-year-old Kiiza Melisa Catherine, a student at City Side School in Kyebando.

The blaze, which ignited around 1:49 a.m., destroyed numerous makeshift structures made of timber and iron sheets, leaving widespread damage and loss of property in the area.

Emergency teams, including those from Kampala Metropolitan Police, the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, and the Uganda Red Cross, responded promptly to contain the flames.

Despite their efforts, Catherine, daughter of Mr. Bashisha Ronald, was found deceased at the scene. Her body has been transported to Mulago City Mortuary for further examination.

Authorities have investigated the cause of the fire and are inspecting the site to rule out additional casualties.
