Police in Kisoro district have arrested a gatekeeper at Kisoro Vision Secondary School for allegedly assaulting a female student. The suspect, identified as Saddam, 28, from the Lugbara tribe in Yumbe district, was employed as a gatekeeper at the school.

The incident occurred on October 18, 2024, involving a student named Asiimwe Blessed. The attack has led to widespread condemnation on social media, particularly on WhatsApp, where local residents have called for swift justice.

Saddam was arrested on Sunday and is currently being held at Kisoro Police Station. His arrest followed orders from Kisoro’s Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Robert Tukamuhabwa, who was prompted to act after a video surfaced showing the assault. He emphasized that the government does not tolerate corporal punishment and that the case is under thorough investigation.

Kisoro district’s Local Council Chairperson, Abel Bizimana, praised the swift action in apprehending the suspect and emphasized the importance of handling the case carefully to protect the school’s reputation. He also stressed that the gatekeeper must be held accountable.

State Minister of Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, expressed appreciation for the prompt response in arresting the suspect.
