Lightning Strike Kills One Pupil, Injures Six in Kassanda

A lightning strike at Kalwana Primary School in Kassanda District has left one pupil dead and six others injured. The incident occurred Friday afternoon, claiming the life of 14-year-old Jackeline Namawejje, a Primary Three pupil.

The injured students include Sarah Naiga, 13; Scovia Namaganda, 10; Prossy Nalubega, 13; Joan Nabankema, 14; Roden Ntuuyo, 13, all from Primary Three, and Mary Navuga, 13, from Primary Four.

Preliminary investigations by police revealed that the lightning struck around 2 p.m. while Namawejje and her classmates were in their Primary Three classroom with their teacher, Sarah Alinyikira Mugenyi, who was marking their books. As it rained outside, lightning entered the classroom through a window, tragically killing one pupil and injuring others.

The injured students were transported to Lwanjiri Health Centre III and Kassanda Health Centre IV, where they are reported to be recovering.
