The police in Soroti City West are investigating a case of attempted murder and arson involving Conzy Amola, a 24-year-old resident of Opiyai ‘B’ cell in the Eastern Division of Soroti City. The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, around 4:00 AM.
The acting spokesperson for East Kyoga Police confirmed that the suspect is Wakabi Eliot, approximately 30 years old. Police were alerted by a witness, and the incident was documented under case number CRB 160/2024. Officers promptly responded to the scene.
It is alleged that on the morning of September 24, the suspect approached the victim’s grass-thatched rental home with a bottle of petrol, which he then set on fire before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim inside. She suffered burn injuries to her face, hands, chest, abdomen, and other parts of her body but was rescued by a Good Samaritan who took her to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect had previously been in a relationship with the victim, which had soured, leading him to threaten her if she chose to end the relationship. Although the victim reported the threats to the local area chairman, no further action was taken at that time. As of now, the suspect remains at large, and no arrests have been made.
