Makerere Student Omasajja Seeks Shs40m for Kidney Transplant

Brian Omassajja, a 26-year-old student from Gayaza Namavundu, urgently requires Shs40 million for a life-saving kidney transplant. Diagnosed with kidney failure in December 2023, his condition is suspected to have stemmed from antibiotics prescribed for another illness. Medical assessments confirm that a transplant is essential for his survival.

Before being hospitalized earlier this year, Omassajja was a first-year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science at Makerere University. He found a donor and traveled to India for the operation, where he is currently admitted at Jaypee Hospital. For over a year, he has relied on costly dialysis treatments to manage his condition.

The family is now seeking Shs40 million to cover the remaining treatment costs, including surgery, accommodation, and other expenses for Omassajja, his donor, and caretaker during their stay in India. Friends have organized a fundraising car wash event set for November 3 at La Verde Gardens Kigo, opposite Serena Hotel in Kigo, to support this cause.

To assist Brian, contributions can be sent to Centenary Bank account number 3200392538 under the name Esamia Sam, or contact 0784198294.

About Kidney Transplants

A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure to implant a functioning kidney from a donor into someone whose kidneys have failed. The kidneys are essential for filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood; without this function, the buildup of waste can lead to serious health complications. A transplant often provides the best outcome for kidney failure, as a single healthy kidney from a donor can replace two failing kidneys, making living donations a viable option.
