Authorities in Amuru District have arrested a suspect linked to the horrific murder of a six-year-old child from Otici Village, believed to be a case of child sacrifice.

The suspect, 23-year-old Okwera Bernard, was apprehended on November 23 in Elegu II Village, Pabbo Sub-County. He was found attempting to perform rituals on Labala Hill after locals provided a tip-off.

The incident occurred on November 19 when the victim, a pupil at Otici Primary School, was abducted while playing with friends. The assailant reportedly dragged the child into a nearby bush and fatally injured him with a sharp object. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack.

During his arrest, Okwera was found with a blood-stained bedsheet and a machete. However, he has not confessed to the crime. Police investigations suggest he is connected to the same area where the murder occurred.

Okwera was first detained at Pabbo Police Station and later transferred to Amuru Central Police Station for further interrogation. Law enforcement is working to gather evidence to ensure the case proceeds to court.

The Amuru Resident District Commissioner has urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors about the case. He reassured the community that the authorities are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice.

The case has sparked widespread fear in the community, fueled by rumors of a demand for 400 human sacrifices for rituals allegedly tied to Karuma Bridge. Security officials, including the 4th Division Commander and West Aswa Regional Police, have dismissed these claims as baseless and vowed to take action against those spreading such propaganda.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to security agencies to help prevent further tragedies.
