A mudslide in Karangura Sub County, Kabarole District, claimed one life on Tuesday night. The disaster, caused by heavy rainfall, destroyed property and swept away a house in Kitonya Village, Kamabale Parish, where the victim was sleeping.

The deceased, identified as Sharif Baluku Mutonya, was alone at home during the landslide. His body was recovered after an extensive search by residents, who mobilized efforts to locate him in the debris.

The rain, which began shortly after nightfall, lasted for about two hours. Rising water levels in the area further complicated access and heightened the destruction. The mudslide moved Mutonya’s house several meters away, leaving behind a deep gully.

Residents, concerned about further landslides, noted that neighboring houses, including one close to Mutonya’s, were partially affected. Community members are now urging for measures to mitigate the risk of future disasters in the area.
