Man Kidnaps 4-Year-Old Own Daughter After Breakup, Demands UGX 50 Million Ransom From His Ex-Wife

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire

A jilted boyfriend has kidnapped his four-year-old daughter and demanded a ransom of shillings 50 million from the child’s mother.

Kampala Metropolitan Police on Monday, September 2, 2024, confirmed the incident, which culminated in the rescue of the little girl on Friday after she went missing on August 26.

According to the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspect, identified as Joseph Ssekyanzi from Kawempe Division, remains at large.

Ssekyanzi allegedly took this drastic step following his separation from the child’s mother, Desire Tamale.

“Imagine kidnapping your own daughter just because you separated from the mother and demanding a ransom,” Owoyesigyire said, questioning Ssekyanzi’s character and condemning his uncouth behaviour.

The Police revealed that the child was found in good health and has since been reunited with her mother.

Authorities are actively pursuing Ssekyanzi, who is currently on the run. Owoyesigyire used the opportunity to warn the public against kidnapping, emphasizing the severe legal consequences of such actions.

This was during the weekly joint security briefing at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.
