Man on the Run After Killing UPDF Veteran Brother Over Milk

Police in Rukungiri are searching for Ategyeka Barnabas, who is accused of killing his older brother, Henry Mugarura, a 48-year-old UPDF veteran, following a dispute over milk from their parents’ cows. The tragic incident took place on the morning of October 2, 2024, in Katooma Cell, Kigaaga Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub-county.

Mugarura had left his wife, Kiconco Blessing, at home and gone to the family house where Ategyeka was living with their sister, Tushabe Annet. Upon seeing Mugarura, Tushabe reportedly raised an alarm, accusing him of planning to assault her. This led Ategyeka to pick up a metal bar and attack his brother, inflicting fatal injuries.

Kiconco, alerted by the noise, rushed to the house but found it locked from the outside. She then went to Nyakagyeme Police to report the situation. When officers arrived, they discovered Mugarura dead, while Ategyeka had fled the scene.

The police recovered the iron bar used in the attack, and Mugarura’s body has been taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III for a postmortem. Investigations are ongoing.
