Police in Oyam District are searching for a man accused of sodomizing his 25-year-old wife, leading to her death. The incident took place in Acek-were B’ village, Omac Parish, Ngai Sub-county, around 1 a.m. on August 8, 2024, resulting in the death of Sarah Angom.
The suspect allegedly returned home intoxicated and assaulted his wife, causing severe injuries. Angom sought treatment at Ngai Health Centre III and was later referred to Abok Health Centre IV and Mulago National Referral Hospital. However, she passed away at home on August 29 due to the family’s inability to afford transportation to Mulago in Kampala.
The suspect had been detained at Ngai police post but disappeared after being released on bond. Authorities were initially unaware of the severity of the case, as it had not yet been reported to the Oyam District CID boss. The suspect, who was arrested on August 13, 2024, remains at large.
A postmortem revealed that the victim suffered significant injuries. The local LC3 chairperson of Ngai Sub-county criticized the decision to grant bond to a suspect involved in such a serious crime and urged the public to cooperate with the police in apprehending the suspect.
