Masindi Police Detain Man For Digging Own Grave, Purchasing Coffin

Police in Masindi have arrested Moses Wanara after he dug a grave and purchased a coffin, allegedly threatening to commit suicide or harm his relatives due to ongoing land disputes.

According to Solomon Asiimwe, chairman of Karujubu sub-county, Wanara, a resident of Zebra village, dug the grave before buying a coffin, which he placed in his home. This raised concerns among locals, who feared he might harm himself or family members, particularly his mother, with whom he had disagreements over land.

The community reported the incident, prompting Asiimwe to notify the police. Authorities quickly responded by removing the coffin and filling in the grave. Wanara was taken into custody for questioning regarding his intentions, with plans for a village meeting to address the situation.

Julius Hakiza, spokesperson for the Albertine region police, confirmed Wanara’s detention at Masindi Central Police Station, where officers are assessing his mental state and investigating the reasons behind his actions. The unusual act of purchasing a coffin and preparing a grave at home has caused alarm in the community.
