Police say they have found the body of a girl who had been reported missing in Wakiso district by her parents.
The victim, Clowe Ndagire, 4, was a resident of Kirinyabigo Zone Nabweru in Wakiso, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.
“On November 15, 2024, we received information at around 18:00 hours (6:00pm) at our Police station in Kawempe of a child who had gone missing while she was playing outside her home with her friends,” he said.
He said the mother had wanted to bathe her, but when she asked around her daughter was nowhere to be seen, adding that the mother went to police and reported the disappearance of her child and the police started investigations.
“Yesterday (Sunday, November 17, 2024) at about 17:00hrs (5:00pm) we received information in Kawanda Wakiso district that there is a body of an unidentified child in an abandoned house,” he said, revealing that it later occurred to them that it was the child who had been reported missing days previously.
He explained that preliminary investigations reveal signs of sexual assault, but noted that these cannot be confirmed and that they are waiting for experts to confirm this.
He added, however, that it is possible the child was sexually assaulted before being strangled in a gruesome way.
He was speaking during the weekly joint media briefing at the Uganda Police headquarters, Naguru in Kampala on Monday.
According to Owoyesigire, the body was found only about 400 metres away from her home in an abandoned structure.
