Mother’s Death in Santa Cruz County Investigated as Homicide

The Epoch Times

The 25-year-old woman died of stab wounds, the sheriff’s department said.

A 25-year-old mother whose remains were found in a remote area of Santa Cruz County died of stab wounds, the sheriff’s department said Aug. 7.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies found the body of Lizbeth Arceo Sedano, of Watsonville, near the corner of Eureka Canyon and Grizzly Flat roads in a forested area of the county Sunday.

Forensic evidence pointed to homicide, according to a sheriff’s department spokesperson.

Such determined “her cause of death was multiple stab wounds to her torso and [the] manner is homicide,” public information officer Ashley Keehn told The Epoch Times Wednesday.

Sedano reportedly shared a 3-year-old daughter with her partner Joshua Gonzalez, 25, also of Watsonville.

According to police, Gonzalez drove his car to the Watsonville Police Department Saturday at about 9:20 p.m. and called the station saying he was armed with a knife and was going to harm the child who was in the car with him.

An officer approached Gonzales and asked him to drop the knife. Instead, he refused and charged at the officer, who then opened fire, striking him, authorities said.

He was taken to a local hospital where he remained in stable condition this week. He faces charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer, resisting an executive order, child endangerment, and brandishing a weapon.

The couple’s daughter is with Sedano’s family, according to a Watsonville city spokeswoman.

The sheriff’s department did not respond to questions about whether Gonzalez is a suspect in Sedano’s death.
