Ngalabi Festival: Over 12 films from various countries to be screened - UG Standard

KAMPALA-Uganda will on 6th to 8th September 2024 host the 8th Edition of the annual Ngalabi Festival.

The festival organized by Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/Ugandan German Cultural Society will not only have film screening, but the audience will be provided with an opportunity for Questions & Answer sessions , to allow the audience to further engage with film directors.

The festival film catalogue boasts notable award-winners like Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire – ‘Herderboy’ by Raymond Malinga (Uganda), From Here To There by Remy Ryumugabe (Rwanda), Ethereality by Kantarama Gahigiri (Rwanda/Switzerland), An Ode To A Time I Loved Bread by Neema Ngelime (Tanzania/ Belgium/ Hungary/ Portugal), Ward`s Henna Party by Morad Mostafa (Egypt) and Indigo by Mona Okullo Obua (Uganda/Germany).

According to Joel Tugaineyo, Festival Curator Festival Program revealed that at this event , they will welcome two films Sèt Lam by Vincent Fontano and Farewell, Friends by Lawrence Valin from Reunion Island for the very first time at Ngalabi.

“We are thrilled to be the first premier stop in Africa for Cut Me If You Can by Nicolas Polixene and Sylvain Loubet (France). In this year’s submissions, we received a rise in animation, sci-fi, and magical realism genres alongside drama, thriller, fantasy, comedy, afro-surrealism, experimental, and documentary. The selected films highlight a range of thematic areas from loss, grief, identity,

Friendship, cultural identity, innovation, love & loneliness, to the influencer economy effects.” He added

This festival which will be held at Circular Design Hub, is a tribute to all the powerful, creative voices that are shaping our industry today.
