When is it, Tom Cruise rumours and what else to expect

After nearly three weeks of dramatic and entertaining sport, the 2024 Paris Olympics will end today. The 33rd Olympics of the modern era will finish with the women’s Marathon this morning, as well as gold medals to be won in basketball, water Polo, wrestling, the modern pentathlon and various cycling disciplines.

When is the closing ceremony?

The ceremony will start tonight at 7pm UK time (that’s 8pm French time) and will be available for viewers to watch on BBC One, BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer. It is set to conclude at 10.15pm UK time.

Where is the closing ceremony?

While the opening ceremony took place along the River Seine, a first for the Olympics, the closing showpiece will take place in the Stade de France.

One of the iconic venues of the Games, the Stade de France has hosted the Athletics and the Rugby 7s.

Are tickets still available?

Yes. Tickets for those who wish to attend are still available, with pricing starting at €250 (£214) for Category D and restricted viewing seating and rising to €1,600 (£1,372) for Category A seating. See the official ticketing website for details.

What will happen at the closing ceremony?

Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the Paris 2024 Olympic ceremonies, has titled the ceremony “Records”, with initial details stating that more than 100 performers will take part in the final spectacle. Musical performances, an original soundtrack and acrobats will all be a feature to take spectators on “a journey through time, both past and future”.

The Stade de France will effectively be turned into a concert hall with a 2,800m2 stage.

Regular traditions of Olympic closing ceremonies such as the extinguishing of the Olympic flame, the handover of the Olympic flag to the Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee, and the athletes’ parade will all take place as Paris caps off a summer of sport.
