An unidentified patient was found dead after falling into a water tank at Nebbi Hospital in Northern Uganda. The patient, who had been taken to the hospital unconscious by police the previous night, was admitted to the emergency ward. Early the next morning, he reportedly left the ward and was later discovered dead in the water tank.
The tank, which holds approximately 20,000 liters, is mounted against a retaining wall below ground level. Hospital officials indicated that the patient had initially been rushed to the hospital by police after a mob attack on suspicion of theft.
Hospital staff reported that the patient, who was admitted with multiple bruises, had managed to leave the emergency unit after regaining some consciousness. Shortly afterward, his body was discovered in the water tank, prompting hospital management to contact the police, who then retrieved the body.
A security guard at the hospital noted that he had heard splashing sounds near the emergency unit and immediately reported the incident to his supervisor, who instructed him to notify the police.
The District Police Commander stated that the body was removed from the water tank and returned to the hospital’s management while awaiting identification by any family members. This incident marks the first occurrence of its kind at Nebbi Hospital.
