A senior customs officer in Nigeria has been found dead in a hotel room in what police are describing as a mysterious incident involving three women.
The deceased, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) Lawal Tukur, reportedly checked into Murjani Hotel in Katsina on Wednesday evening, October 15, before he was later discovered lifeless the following morning.
According to reports reaching our newsroom from Katsina, hotel workers became alarmed when the officer failed to come out of his room by 8:30 a.m. They knocked repeatedly, but there was no response. Upon gaining entry, they found him motionless on the bed and immediately alerted authorities.
Sources inside the hotel told reporters that empty sachets of unidentified substances were recovered from the dustbin in the room. It is believed the officer had been in the company of three women during the night.
The women were later identified as Khadija Ali (34) from Dutsin Amare Quarters in Katsina, Aisha Lawal (30) from Ingawa District, and Hafsat Yusuf (22) from Brigade Quarters in Kano. Investigators say Khadija and Aisha reportedly spent the night with the deceased, while Hafsat is said to have joined them later in the night and booked another room within the same hotel.
The officer’s body was transported to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Katsina, where doctors confirmed his death. His remains have since been kept at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to establish the exact cause.
Police sources have confirmed that the Nigeria Customs Service has been notified, and investigations are ongoing to determine what happened inside the hotel that night.
