Police in Kassanda are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an officer who was struck by a truck while riding a motorcycle.
The incident occurred on Monday at Nakiganda village along the Mityana-Mubende highway in Kassanda district. A Fuso truck, registration number UBA 135G, collided with a motorcycle, registration number UFP 815R, ridden by Constable Moses Aliguma, who was attached to Kassanda Central Police Station.
Preliminary findings suggest the truck driver, traveling from Mityana to Mubende, swerved off his lane to avoid potholes and struck the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact caused the police officer to die on the spot.
The scene was examined and documented, and the deceased’s body was transported to Kiganda Health Centre mortuary for a postmortem. Both the motorcycle and the truck have been impounded and are currently at Kassanda CPS pending inspection.
The cause of the accident has been attributed to reckless driving by the truck driver, who is being pursued by authorities to face charges.
