Police Recruit Arrested After Sniffer Dog Traces Missing Shs1.3 million to His Jacket

A recruit at the Police Training School in Kabalye has been arrested after a sniffer dog traced a missing Shs1.3 million to his jacket.

The suspect, identified as Probation Police Constable Ocaya, was apprehended after the money disappeared at the training facility. A sniffer dog was brought in to assist in identifying the individual responsible for the theft.

The dog led detectives behind the dormitory, where the missing cash was discovered hidden in a black jacket belonging to Ocaya. The money had been concealed inside the jacket, which was placed in a bucket.

The scenes of crime officer recovered the money and counted it in front of instructors and other witnesses. A case has since been registered under SD/Ref: 02/16/09/2024 at the Kabalye Police Training School quarter guard post.

This incident highlights the important role police dogs play in fighting crime. Recently, police reported that their sniffer dogs had assisted in the arrest of 4,289 suspected criminals within a three-month period.

The Canine Unit is a specialized branch of the Police Force, supporting other departments in preventing, detecting, and investigating crime. These service dogs undergo extensive training to assist their handlers with various tasks.
