Police Rescue Kidnapped Toddler, Suspect Arrested

Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

A two-year-old girl kidnapped from her home in Kireka-Kamuli, Kira Municipality, has been rescued by Ugandan police, and the alleged kidnapper is in custody.

Ayan Makanga was taken on October 10 by Kato Geofrey, who tricked her mother, Nayakaisiki Fatumah, into inviting him to their home. Geofrey demanded a UGX 150 million ransom via WhatsApp message.

The swift action of Ayan’s parents, who reported the incident to Kira Division Police, led to a thorough investigation by the Crime Intelligence Directorate.

“Today, the suspect was apprehended in Kigarama Village, Kasanda District, and the child was safely recovered,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Ayan was found in good health and reunited with her parents. Geofrey is currently in police custody and will face charges.
