President Museveni Promotes Five Senior Police Officers to AIGP Rank

President Yoweri Museveni, Commander in Chief (CIC) of the Armed Forces, has promoted five Senior Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), the third-highest rank in the Uganda Police Force.

The promotions come alongside key appointments to various departments within the force.

Apora James has been appointed Director of Logistics & Engineering. Lawrence Niwabiine has taken on the role of Director of Traffic Police. Joseph Obwona now serves as Director of Interpol & International Relations.

Steven Tanui has been named Director of Fire and Rescue Services, while Geoffrey Musana has been appointed Deputy Director of Logistics & Engineering.

Four of these officers—Apora, Niwabiine, Obwona, and Tanui—had been serving in acting capacities in their respective departments.

Their promotions to AIGP formalize their positions, ensuring compliance with the requirement that police directors hold the rank of AIGP.
