Russia’s Vladimir Putin Congratulates Museveni on Uganda’s Independence Anniversary

Russian President, Vladimir Putin has congratulated President Yoweri Museveni and the people of Uganda ahead of the 62-independence anniversary.

In his message, the Russian president hailed the friendly relations the two countries enjoy and expressed confidence in further strengthening of constructive bilateral cooperation.

“The Russian Federation and the Republic of Uganda enjoy friendly relations this fact was to the full extent reaffirmed by our joint work at the Russia-Africa Summit, which was held in Saint-Petersburg last year. I am confident that further development of constructive bilateral cooperation fully meets the interests of our peoples and is in line with strengthening security and stability on the African continent,” Putin said.

Every October 9, since 1962, highlights a significant milestone in Uganda’s history as the day the country broke free from the British colonial rule.

Relatedly, the chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko sent a congratulatory message to the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda, Anita Among and the people of Uganda as they mark the 62nd independence anniversary.

Matviyenko stressed that in Russia they value the friendly relations with Uganda and that they attach great significance to the development of cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.

“The Federation Council intends to further strengthen Russia-Ugandan inter-parliamentary dialogue, as well as to promote cooperation between our legislatures, both in bilateral format and on the platforms of international organizations,” Matviyenko said.
