S4 Student and Boda Boda Rider Killed in Ntungamo Highway Collision

Police in Ntungamo District are investigating a tragic accident on the Ntungamo-Kabale highway that claimed two lives. The incident occurred at 6:35 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, near Kyamugashe in Katinda.

The accident involved a National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) vehicle, registered as UBN 677/T, driven by Gerald Jakwonga, 49, from Wakiso District, and a motorcycle registered as UGH 828/T, operated by Henry Tibesigwa, a boda boda rider from Kyamugashe stage.

According to AIP Benard Manzi, the officer in charge of traffic at Rubaare Police Station, the accident happened when Tibesigwa unexpectedly turned right and collided with the NEMA vehicle.

Both Tibesigwa, 37, and his passenger, Miracle Aryatwijuka, a 17-year-old Senior Four student at Ruyonzya Seed Secondary School, sustained fatal injuries. Tibesigwa passed away after being admitted to Karuhanga Doctor’s Referral Hospital in critical condition, while Aryatwijuka died on the way to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

An eyewitness, Ronald Aryatwijuka, another boda boda rider at Kyamugashe, mentioned that the NEMA driver claimed he could not stop in time due to brake failure and did not notice Tibesigwa’s turn signal.

The NEMA vehicle is currently impounded at Rubaare Police Station for inspection. Efforts are also underway to locate the motorcycle, which was reportedly taken from the scene by unidentified individuals. Investigations into the accident continue.
