Joint security forces in Karamoja have reported the killing of two notorious warriors and the capture of one accomplice during a targeted operation in Karenga district.
The operation, conducted on September 25, 2024, resulted in the recovery of an SMG rifle, numbered H9211, along with 27 live rounds of ammunition. The raid, which involved a gunfight, took place at a hideout in Lokodope village, Kawalakol Sub-County.
The slain warriors, Issa Lokuria and Lemukol Lopiringole, were from Lolelia Sub-County in Kaabong district. They had been involved in terrorizing communities across several sub-counties, including Kathile, Sangar, Karenga, and Kawalakol.
Their accomplice, Tayal Korianga, was captured alive and is currently in military custody.
Lokuria, known as a criminal mastermind, had led his group for years. His gang was involved in cross-border arms smuggling, poaching in Kidepo Valley National Park, and forging alliances with criminal networks in South Sudan.
Security forces reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace in the Karamoja Sub-Region and protecting Uganda’s territorial integrity.
