SFC Soldier Sentenced To Death For Shooting 3 Civilians Dead

The 5th Division Military Court Martial in Agago District has sentenced a Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier to death after he was found guilty of killing three civilians in Ngora East Village, Paimol Sub-county.

Private Bonny Ameny, 32, a member of the elite Special Forces Command (SFC), was charged with three counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, abduction, and absence without official leave.

The court, chaired by Colonel Peter Musherewe, delivered the sentence on Wednesday after a two-day hearing conducted in Ngora East Village, where the crimes took place.

The court established that on October 20, 2024, Ameny deserted his post at Pakondong Detach and went to Ngora East Village to confront his wife, Betty Angom, whom he suspected of infidelity. Armed and agitated, Ameny fatally shot three people and injured two others, including a one-year-old child. He also abducted a resident, forcing him at gunpoint to reveal the location of his wife and her alleged lover.

During the trial, Ameny admitted to all charges, explaining that his actions were driven by frustration after his wife disappeared with Shs16.5 million he had given her to start a business. He claimed that his attempts to seek help from her family and the police were unsuccessful, leading him to take matters into his own hands.

The prosecution underscored the severity of the crimes, describing them as premeditated acts that caused immense harm to the community. Despite the defense highlighting Ameny’s previously clean record, his role as a breadwinner, and his cooperation during the trial, the court upheld the death sentence.

Colonel David Opeero, Deputy Commander of the 5th Infantry Division, praised the community for their cooperation in the investigation and reassured the public of the UPDF’s commitment to justice and accountability.

THE WORD SFC SEEMS TO BE THE ONE MISS LEADING THEM . Or that’s how SFC soldiers are taught. They act to be too special.
