State House Anti-Corruption Unit Arrests 5 Entebbe Airport Staff Over Fake Gold Scheme

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arraigned and charged six suspects for illegal dealing in minerals.

On 30th September 2024, a team was dispatched to the Airport, for an operation over the matter and 6 suspects were arrested including;

1. Kananura Daniel, a Businessman

2. Mpomba Richard, Clearing Agent at Entebbe International Airport,

3. Muhwezi Benon, Clearing Agent at Entebbe International Airport

4. Nkahirwa Pascal, Clearing Agent in Kampala,

5. Mujuzi John Keneddy, a cleaner at the Airport,

6. Bekalaze Ismail, Clearing Agent at the airport.

”These were found with 11 plastic boxes containing 300 metal bars they claimed were gold and intended to use the same to defraud unsuspecting persons, especially investors and businessmen,” says the Unit adding;

”Upon a forensic analysis by the minerals experts from the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines, the items were found to be other minerals other than gold.”

They have all been charged at the Entebbe Chief Magistrate’s Court with dealing in minerals without a license, mingling minerals with intent to defraud and smuggling minerals and have been remanded till 25/10/2024.
