State House Anti Corruption Unit Arrests Pastor Over Theft

On Tuesday, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit arraigned Mwesige Geofrey Kiiza, also known as Pastor Jeff, before the Kira Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wakiso District. He faces charges of attempting to evict a bonafide occupant without an eviction order, destroying growing plants, and theft. Pastor Jeff was remanded until October 3, 2024.

In August 2024, the accused, along with accomplices still at large, attempted to illegally evict the family of the late Abiyasaali Kasozi from their ancestral land in Kireka. Without an eviction order, they cut down eucalyptus trees that the family had nurtured for over 40 years.

Despite directives from the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to halt the eviction, the Pastor proceeded with the tree-cutting and sold the timber. His actions directly violated presidential orders concerning the rights of Bibanja holders.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU) was established under Article 99(4) of the Constitution of Uganda, which grants the President executive powers to perform his duties either directly or through subordinate officers.

Since its launch on December 10, 2018, the unit has coordinated with other agencies to combat corruption in the country.
