Surendra, Fourth Son of Madhvani Dies at 82

Surendra Madhvani, the fourth son of Madhvani Group founder Muljibhai Prabhudas Madhvani, has passed away at the age of 82 in Mumbai, India. His death was confirmed by sources in Kakira, though the cause has not been disclosed.

Surendra, commonly known as Surubhai, is survived by his wife Maya and children Rickin and Priya. Another child, Tamana, was stillborn but remains included in the family’s genealogy.

Born on November 26, 1942, Surendra was one of 13 siblings. He was the ninth child, with his father’s wealth equally distributed among the five sons. Surendra and his brother Pratap maintained a lower profile within the family, with Surendra known for his humility and reserved nature. He often played the role of family advisor during conflicts.

During disputes over family inheritance, Surendra supported the widow of his eldest brother Jayant, Meenaben, helping her maintain control of assets after Milton Obote’s government returned them. His loyalty to this side of the family stemmed from the care he and his younger siblings received from Jayant and Meenaben following the deaths of their parents.

Though he served as a joint managing director, Surendra’s involvement in the Madhvani Group was limited, with most leadership passing through his brothers Jayant, Manubhai, and later Mayur. Surendra’s focus shifted to international investments, including ventures in Bermuda and India, where he owned two iron rolling mills and an investment arm, Holinta Industrial and Commercial Investment.

Surendra’s cremation will take place in India, and his ashes will be repatriated to rest at the family mausoleum in Jinja, alongside his father and brothers. His brother Pratap has traveled to India to oversee the funeral arrangements.
