Three Children Drown in Sand Mine Pond in Masaka

Three children have drowned in a sand mine pond in Misansala village, Buwunga Sub-county, Masaka District. The incident happened on Sunday as the children followed an unknown man who was going to the river to fetch water.

The deceased have been identified as Byron Kigula, aged 6 years, and Brian, aged 3 years, both sons of Juliet Nalunga, a teacher at Little Angels Nursery School in Misansala, and Junior Kateregga, aged 6 years, son of Senior Kateregga, a neighbor of the school.

It is reported that one of the children fell into the pond, and the other two tried to help him out but instead, they all drowned.

Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, said investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the children’s deaths.

He, however, urged parents to always watch out for their children and not leave them alone at the sand mines without adult supervision.
