Three killed in hit-and-run accident in Kabale

On Friday, August 30, 2024, tragedy struck Kabale District as parents and relatives gathered at Kabale Hospital mortuary to claim the bodies of their loved ones. Three young men—Merekezedeki Byaruhanga, 25, Osbert Natuhwera, 24, and Methodius Niwamanya, 24—lost their lives after being struck by an unidentified vehicle along the Kabale-Katuna road on Thursday night.

According to the Kigezi regional police, two of the victims died instantly, while the third succumbed to injuries shortly after being rushed to Kabale Hospital for medical attention. Preliminary reports suggest that the accident was caused by careless driving by the unknown motorist who fled the scene.

The victims, all recent university graduates, were working as marketers of assorted manufactured goods in Kabale District. Their deaths have left their families devastated, as they had great hopes for the future contributions the young men would make.

The incident has been recorded at Kabale police station under TAR 82/2024, and the investigation is ongoing.
