In response to ongoing smuggling activities in Jinja, the local enforcement team launched a wide-scale operation, seizing significant quantities of salt and rice—essential commodities for household and commercial use. This intensified effort followed intelligence reports as part of a broader crackdown on illicit trade aimed at ensuring that all market goods comply with tax regulations.
Acting on a tip-off, the team intercepted a truck, UAM803S, carrying 12 tons of salt and 1.2 tons of rice.
The enforcement team seized a substantial quantity of goods, including 12 tons of Kay Salt from Kenya, 19 sacks of Basmati rice (40kg each), 8 cartons of Fruit cordial juice from the UAE, 2 cartons of Baby cola shampoo from the UAE, 2 cartons of Body scrub from the UAE, 3 cartons of White oats from the UAE, 2 bags of Bahraf rice (25kg each), 5 bags of Sana Rice (25kg each), 23 bags of Hilal Basmati Rice (5kg each), and 8 bags of Hilal/Mahamood Basmati rice (10kg each).
