Security forces have arrested two suspects and recovered three illegal firearms during recent operations in the Karenga and Kaabong districts.
Major Isaac Oware, the Third Division Information Officer, confirmed that the operations successfully seized two submachine guns and a light machine gun.
In Karenga District, two suspects, Peter Lomojong and John Lokoroi, both residents of Kawalakol Sub-county, were arrested after being found in possession of two submachine guns with ammunition.
In a separate operation in Kaabong District, led by Lieutenant Colonel Gaston Mugarura, security forces recovered a light machine gun and 19 rounds of ammunition. The suspect, Lakalany Apanangula, a resident of Lodwa village in Kaabong, managed to escape and remains at large.
Efforts to capture Apanangula are ongoing as part of a broader crackdown on illegal firearms in the region.
These operations are part of a larger strategy aimed at reducing insecurity caused by armed warriors in the Karamoja sub-region. During the Karamoja cultural event on September 7, 2024, President Museveni encouraged residents to surrender illegal firearms and embrace peace for the region’s progress.
