Two confirmed dead After Lorry Overturns in Katakwi

Two people tragically died on the spot this evening in an accident on the Katakwi-Soroti highway when a Fuso lorry, registered as UAL 522D, overturned. The incident occurred at Abela in Gwetom Sub-County, Katakwi District.

The lorry was transporting over 60 women and three men who were returning from a women’s conference in Katakwi. According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to overspeeding, leading to the crash.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Some were admitted to Katakwi Hospital, while those in critical condition were transferred to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be released, and authorities are still confirming the exact number of injured victims. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
