Two school administrators from St. Mary’s Junior School in Namirembe, Kapeka, Nakaseke District, have been arrested and remanded to Morikatipe Prison in Tororo for possessing Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers without authorization.
The suspects, Dennis Juko (headteacher) and Moses Ejangu (director of studies), are accused of impersonating Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) examiners and spreading false information. They were charged under Section 25(1) of the UNEB Act before Tororo Chief Magistrate Doreen Ajuna.
The two will remain in custody until their next court appearance on October 15.
The arrests were made following a complaint by Moses Olema, a staff member at Busitema University, who reported that the suspects falsely claimed to be involved in the official exam-setting process.
After their arrest, Juko and Ejangu admitted to their actions and asked for forgiveness, citing ignorance.
Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Police Spokesperson, confirmed the charges and urged school administrators to stay vigilant as UNEB prepares for the upcoming national exams. He stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
UNEB has scheduled a briefing for Primary Seven candidates on November 4, with the PLE exams to be held on November 6 and 7.
This case underscores ongoing challenges in preserving the credibility of national examinations in Uganda, prompting authorities to emphasize the need for strict adherence to UNEB regulations.
