Police in Kiryandongo District are investigating the murder of two security guards from Sovereign Security Company at Shines Energy fuel station in Kiryandongo Town.
The guards, identified as Omirambe Alex and James, were killed on duty early Tuesday morning at around 3:00 am by unknown attackers. The assailants hacked the guards to death before proceeding to a nearby fuel station, Oil Energy, where they stole over Shs 10 million.
The attackers tied up the guards and pump attendants at Oil Energy with ropes, warning them to stay silent. One pump attendant, who was resting at the time, was assaulted and tied up before the attackers accessed the safe where the money was kept.
The incident lasted approximately 40 minutes, during which the assailants operated undisturbed. After they left, the pump attendant untied himself and reported the incident to the authorities.
Police have detained a security guard who left his post without authorization to assist with the investigation. Meanwhile, Shines Energy fuel station operations have been suspended, and the area remains under police cordon.
The attack has caused widespread shock and outrage within the community. Residents have condemned the killings and called for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the attackers to assist in the investigation as efforts to apprehend those responsible continue.
