Uganda Launches Construction of Malaba-Kampala Standard Gauge Railway

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has launched the construction of the 272km Eastern Route Standard Gauge Railway from Malaba to Kampala.

The launch events are underway in Tororo, Eastern Uganda.

On October 14, the Government signed a €2.7b contract with Yapi Merkezi to construct the line from Malaba to Kampala.

Yapi Merkezi is a Turkish construction company that specializes in infrastructure and transportation projects, including railways, bridges, and other civil engineering works:

The line and all related infrastructure will be constructed within 48 months.
