Uganda and Serbia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) that will facilitate scheduled international air services for airlines from both countries. The MoU was signed signed on October 25, 2024, on the side-lines of the Joint Commission for Trade Cooperation held in Serbia from October 23-27, 2024.
The Ugandan delegation, which was led by Gen Wilson Mbadi, the state minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives also had officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Ministry of Works and Transport, State House Diaspora Affairs Unit, the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports, and Industrial Development (PACEID) and UCAA.
Following similar engagements at the ICAO Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN) in Malaysia from October 21-25, 2024, at which Uganda signed another BASA with Oman and held discussions with Latvia, the total number of BASAs has increased from Fifty-Six (56) to Fifty-Eight (58).
“BASAs enhance connectivity, pave the way for the commencement of flights between states, and a mechanism for air transport regulation,” says Vianney Mpungu Luggya, the Spokesperson for Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.
