Ugandan Pastors Arrested After Their Followers Are Found Squeezing Themselves in Church

Authorities in Kisoro have arrested two men accused of posing as pastors and leading what officials described as disturbing gatherings inside their church.

The suspects, Gadina Tuyisenge, 24, and Brian Ndizeye, 25, are leaders of Jerusalem Church in Kasemisego, Rwaramba, Nyakinama Sub-County.

Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Vallence Hagumimana said his office was alerted by residents who reported strange sounds and lights coming from the premises. Acting on the tip, Hagumimana and RDC John Nizeyimana visited the church and entered during a prayer session.

He explained that when they stepped inside, they were shocked to find men and women in a disorderly state. According to Hagumimana, people were squeezing each other inappropriately, and the situation looked nothing like a normal church service.

The suspects were immediately handed over to Kisoro Central Police Station (CPS), where the RDCs requested a full investigation. The Officer-in-Charge, ASP Alex Tumuheirwe, assured the public that police would carry out a detailed inquiry.

During questioning, Tuyisenge and Ndizeye admitted that they were the leaders of the church. They reportedly told police that they were performing miracles for their followers and argued that the closed-door session was simply to protect the congregation from rain.

Both men remain in custody at Kisoro CPS as the investigation continues.
