Hundreds of people from Masindi district and beyond are flocking to a hill in Rwensa cell, Nyangahya division, after claims of an apparition of the Blessed Mother Mary.
The sighting was reportedly first experienced by a man grazing cows near the hill, sparking mass movement to the area. One of the early visitors, a woman reportedly possessed by the Holy Spirit, was instructed to notify Francis Ogenmungu, a devout Catholic from Kabalye cell, who had been praying for Mary’s intervention since August.
Ogenmungu, upon arriving at the site with his area catechist, claimed to have seen the Blessed Mother Mary in a dark cloud, dressed in bright, shining colors with a white veil.
Other witnesses, including local teacher John Kiiza and resident Christine Akumu, also reported seeing the apparition. Akumu described seeing a bright light followed by the image of Mary.
As believers gathered to pray and sing worship songs, Church of Uganda leaders urged caution. They warned against accepting claims that the Holy Spirit regularly visits such areas, advising that believers seek spiritual guidance through church prayers instead of chasing miraculous sightings. Concerns have also been raised by Catholic leaders in Kampala, urging faithful to approach these reports with skepticism.

In the hills of Masindi, believers believe they are seeing MOTHER MARY (held in awe & said to pray for catholics now & at the hour of their death). The jornalists/reporters have some repenting to do before they can see Mother Mary. Get @DoreenNyanjura, @qataharraymond or other… pic.twitter.com/9qcnrOQI68
