Mityana Man Arrested Over Wife’s Murder

Police in Mityana District have arrested a man in connection with the death of his wife during a suspected domestic altercation in Kyakkosi Village, Sekanyonyi Sub-county.

Authorities identified the suspect as Samuel Tumusiime, and the deceased as Margaret Nabisinde, both residents of the same village.

Initial investigations indicate that on September 16, 2024, Tumusiime assaulted his wife, accusing her of stealing his money and spending it on alcohol. Nabisinde sustained severe injuries, which led to her immediate death.

It is reported that Tumusiime used a stool, an iron bar, and a hoe handle to beat his wife. She succumbed to the serious injuries inflicted during the attack.

Residents of Kyakkosi Village mentioned that the couple had a history of domestic disputes, frequently engaging in physical fights. Tumusiime had previously accused his wife of stealing his coffee beans to sell and fund her drinking habits.

The suspect’s home was allegedly a meeting spot for marijuana users, and local authorities believe the drug may have influenced him at the time of the attack.

Police visited the crime scene and recovered several items believed to have been used in the assault, including a broken stool, a hoe handle, and an iron bar.

According to the 2023 police crime report, cases of domestic violence decreased from 17,698 in 2022 to 14,681 in 2023. However, domestic violence continues to be a major issue in many communities, often resulting in serious injury or death.
