Police in Rubirizi District, western Uganda, have arrested a 29-year-old woman accused of killing her 30-year-old husband during a domestic dispute about Shs50,000.
The victim, a local businessman named Brian Twimukye, was a resident of Ndaragi Village, Kakanju Sub-county in Bushenyi District. The suspect, a peasant farmer, resides in Nyakagyezi Village, Katanda Sub-county, Rubirizi District.
The incident occurred on the night of November 19 at Katara I Village, Katara Parish in Kichwamba Sub-county. Authorities say the dispute began when the husband questioned his wife about the source of the money. During the altercation, the suspect reportedly grabbed a nearby panga, leading to a struggle. The husband sustained fatal injuries to his neck, arms, and leg.
Twimukye was rushed to Rugazi Health Center IV in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries within an hour.
Reports indicate the couple lived in an isolated house, about 50 meters from their nearest neighbors, making it difficult for anyone to intervene during the fight.
The couple reportedly began living together two years ago in Bushenyi District and had a six-month-old daughter. They moved to Rubirizi District in August 2024 to start a small business.
Local leaders in Kichwamba Sub-county have noted a history of domestic violence in the couple’s relationship, with suspicions of infidelity often causing tension.
Under Ugandan law, murder is a serious crime that carries severe penalties, including life imprisonment. Police investigations into the case are ongoing.
