The house of Ugandan gospel singer and local politician Levi Amarakutunga, also known as DJ Levi Nyamagoya, was set on fire by an angry mob in Kitagwenda District, prompting a police investigation. The incident took place in Kanyara village, Kikondo Ward, Kabujogera Town Council, where local leaders and passersby discovered the house in flames on March 27.
Amarakutunga, who serves as the district councilor representing persons with disabilities (PWDs), was remanded along with three others by the Kamwenge Grade One Magistrate on March 26. They are facing allegations related to the kidnapping, murder, and sacrifice of a four-year-old girl named Trinah Ainomugisha. The other suspects include Radius Tumusiime, 30; Deus Kakuru, 28; and Nicholus Asingura, 18. All four were charged and sent to Katojo Government Prison in Kabarole District.
Initially, police officers were deployed to guard Amarakutunga’s property, but they were later withdrawn when the situation seemed to have stabilized. However, the house was later set ablaze, with eyewitnesses stating that they saw the fire but could not identify those responsible.
Kitagwenda District Police Commander Bashir Bakulumpagi condemned the act of mob justice and assured the public that investigations were underway. He urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands as authorities work to establish those behind the attack.
Additionally, reports have surfaced of accusations against Amarakutunga involving alleged attempts to engage in unnatural acts with adult men.
