Kenyan High Commissioner-Designate Presents Credentials to Ugandan Minister – UG Standard

KAMPALA, UGANDA —The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda has announced that H.E. Joash Arthur Maangi, High Commissioner-Designate of the Republic of Kenya to Uganda, presented copies of his Letters of Credence to Hon. John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs.

The formal ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the longstanding and cordial relations between Kenya and Uganda. Minister Mulimba welcomed High Commissioner Maangi, expressing Uganda’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of collaboration.

High Commissioner Maangi conveyed greetings from President William Ruto and the Kenyan people, reaffirming Kenya’s dedication to enhancing diplomatic and economic relations with Uganda. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in addressing regional and global challenges.

The High Commissioner noted that Uganda is Kenya’s largest trading partner, with significant trade in food and fresh produce. In 2022, bilateral trade between the two countries reached $1.2 billion, with Kenya exporting goods worth $433 million to Uganda, and Uganda exporting goods worth $767 million to Kenya. Key areas of trade include agricultural products, manufactured goods, and services.

High Commissioner Maangi identified key areas of cooperation, including addressing cross-border conflicts, enhancing trade through the expansion of One Stop Border Posts, and promoting investment in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism.

Minister Mulimba assured High Commissioner Maangi of the Ministry’s full support and expressed optimism that his appointment would usher in a new chapter of robust and dynamic relations between Kenya and Uganda.

The presentation of credentials marks a significant step in fortifying the ties between Kenya and Uganda, reflecting a shared vision of progress and prosperity.
