The Gen-Z anti-corruption protests in Kampala took an unexpected turn today as demonstrators adopted a new tactic: nudity.
A group of nude protesters was arrested near the Parliament building, causing a significant disruption in the area. The demonstrators, protesting against corruption in Parliament, removed their clothes as a form of protest, drawing immediate attention from passers-by and security personnel.
The protest, reportedly premeditated, involved participants marching toward Parliament while holding placards with various inscriptions. Some of the messages called for accountability from the Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) concerning the recent tragedy at the Kiteezi landfill.
Security operatives swiftly intervened, arresting the protesters and transporting them to an undisclosed location. Authorities have yet to release an official statement about the incident, and the identities of the protesters remain undisclosed.
The demonstration briefly interrupted traffic and caused a commotion in the area, but normalcy was restored soon after the arrests. The incident has sparked a heated debate on social media, with opinions divided over the effectiveness and appropriateness of such forms of protest.
The protesters are expected to face charges, though it remains unclear what specific legal actions will be taken against them.
