Uganda police announced Wednesday that they had shot and killed a suspect during a rescue operation for an Egyptian national and embassy official who was abducted last week. The victim, Muhammad Ali Abdul Amidu, was reportedly kidnapped on November 8, 2024, by unidentified individuals on Zanna Entebbe Road and taken to an undisclosed location.
The kidnappers demanded a ransom of $40,000 (approximately Shs147 million), threatening to kill him if their demands were not met. The Jinja Road Police Division received the report, prompting the Crime Intelligence Unit and the UPDF’s Directorate of Intelligence Services to begin tracking the suspects, monitoring their movements across various locations.
On November 13, 2024, around 2 p.m., officers intercepted the suspects as they were en route to Pearl Motel in Buloba, Wakiso District, in a Toyota Noah with registration number UAZ 247S, which had three occupants. During the operation, one of the kidnappers was killed in a confrontation with the rescue team. Amidu was rescued unharmed, and the other two suspects were apprehended and remain in custody as investigations continue.
