Police in the North Kyoga Region have arrested seven members of the Orimakori clan in connection with a revenge attack following the death of Dickens Odongo, a businessman in Lira City.
Odongo was reportedly shot dead on October 29, 2024, by a private security guard stationed at Navroz Supermarket on Olwol Road. The suspect, identified as Moses Opio, allegedly carried out the fatal shooting at the supermarket, which is believed to be owned by an Indian national.
On November 6, 2024, members of Odongo’s clan traveled from Amugu Sub-County in Alebtong District, along with some relatives, to the suspect’s family in Akalo Sub-County, Kwania District. They demanded compensation for funeral expenses and blood money.
The group reportedly took items including three mattresses, two bags of beans, approximately eight chickens, three solar panels, and various food supplies during the confrontation.
The North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, confirmed the arrest of seven suspects and stated that a case of aggravated robbery has been filed at Akalo Police Station. Dangerous weapons, such as spears and pangas, were recovered from the suspects as evidence. Police have also taken statements from relevant witnesses and suspects.
The seven individuals taken into custody are identified as Daniel Omara, Bonny Ojok, William Nam, Bonnie Owili, James Okao, Samuel Odongo, and Felix Okwir.
SP Okema stated that case files have been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for review and legal guidance. Police are actively searching for additional suspects who are still at large. He expressed strong disapproval of such retaliatory actions, emphasizing the importance of lawful conflict resolution and urging clan leaders to discourage such practices.
