Three Arrested Over Murder of Kaliro Businesswoman

Police have arrested three individuals, including a 50-year-old man, his wife, and her sister, in connection with the robbery and murder of local businesswoman Betty Tusingwire earlier this month.

Tusingwire was tragically killed on October 2, 2024, around 9:00 PM, after returning home with her husband. Unidentified assailants shot her and robbed the couple of UGX 3 million before fleeing the scene.

In a coordinated operation between local police and the Flying Squad, the suspects were apprehended in Iganga and initially detained at Buliigo Police Post. They were later transferred to Kaliro Central Police Station for further investigation.

The suspects have been identified as Robert Nfambi, a resident of Nampirika, Suzan Kadondi alias Byogero, a resident of Bugabwe, and Nakanda Damalie, a resident of Kasokoso Central in Iganga. Nfambi is believed to have acted as the getaway driver in multiple criminal operations, while Kadondi allegedly stored the firearm used in the attacks.

During a search at Nakanda’s residence, police recovered an AK-47 rifle with serial number 564812008 and 16 rounds of ammunition. Investigations revealed that the weapon was smuggled into Uganda from Kenya by Nfambi’s brother, Kapere alias Brown, and a friend named Saidi.

The group is also suspected of being involved in other robberies in Iganga Municipality and Namungalwe Town Council, including the recent robbery in Kaliro Town Council, which resulted in Tusingwire’s death.

Authorities continue the manhunt for additional suspects connected to the group’s criminal activities. Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their communities, as investigations continue.
